The Région Pays-de-la_Loire is situated on the west coast of France bordering Brittany (Bretagne), Normandy (Basse-Normandie), Centre Val de-Loire and Poitou-Charentes.

The region is divided into five departments; Loire-Atlantique (44), Maine-et-Loire (49), Mayenne (53), Sarthe (72) and Vendée (85). Each department boasts it own unique qualities, specialities and landscapes.

The mouth of the River Loire looking towards St Nazaire from the south side of the riverLong sandy beaches, vineyards and chateaux combined with a mild and sunny climate, this region has plenty on offer for holiday-makers.

The River Loire reaches its Atlantic destination at the coastal town of La Baule.

Up river the city of Nantes has narrow winding streets and medieval buildings.

There are vineyards to the south where you can enjoy wine-tasting and the old town of Ancenis is a regional wine centre, surrounded by wine villages.

The food of the region is wonderful. Fish features highly, with sea, estuary and rivers providing an immense larder. Inland, meat and game take over with a fine selection of locally grown produce to accompany the dishes. For the sweet-toothed, this is a region that will satisfy; renowned for its tarts, pies, pancakes and fritters. There are also a variety of locally produced cheeses to tempt the taste-buds.

Swimming, sailing, riding, golf and even buggy racing provide plenty of activities for all the family, as well as numerous fairs, fetes and events throughout the year.
